Sorlith crashed frantically through the underbrush, ignoring the many scores she collected from briers and thorns along the way. Stealth must be sacrificed for speed this night. She needed to get back onto safe pack grounds as quickly as her lithe limbs could carry her. For this was uncharted territory. And it was hunting season. Kierra would be waiting eagerly for her arrival. This was a political mission, and Sorlith was carrying back with her a very important message from their neighboring rivals that would inevitably decide the fate of her pack lands. But that message would never be known. At that moment a horrible pain shot through her very core. A blade that bit deep and mangled tendon and bone, its poison rotting the soul to fear. She had been shot. In those few painful airborne moments, Sorlith saw her pack flash behind her closed amber eyes. A pack whose love eagerly awaited her at home. And then she hit the earth; the bone-shattering impact driving the arrow head ever deeper into her flesh.
A pack whose hope would die with her. Forgive me.... The saddest thing since A Bed of Roses. And, like the Bed of Roses project, this was a very old sketch (done 4-5 years ago) that I found in my sketch book and wanted out. Hope you enjoy it.  Artwork copyright myself, Carissa K.  |
